Indian citizenship: 225620 renounce nationality in 2022, the highest in the decade

While responding to a query, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar provided year-wise number of Indians who have renounced their Indian citizenship. He informed that over 16 lakh Indians renounced their Indian citizenship since 2011 including 2,25,620 this year, the highest during the period , while the lowest of 85,256 was in 2020.

Jaishankar also provided the list of 135 countries who citizenship Indian’s acquired and also informed that five Indian Nationals obtained the citizenship of United Arab Emirates.
