 India urges Australian government to take action against Khalistani sympathises after attack on NRIs

New Delhi: India has urged the Australian government to look into and punish pro-Khalistan extremists who are responsible for the attacks on Australians of Indian descent. India has also requested that Australia prevent the use of its territory for anti-Indian activities.

What did the MEA say?

Union Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, ''We have been repeatedly taking up with the Australian authorities our concerns about actions by such elements, including those that are proscribed, proscribed terrorist organisations.''

A group of Indians holding the Tricolor were reportedly attacked by individuals from allegedly pro-Khalistani organisations on Sunday afternoon at Federation Square in Melbourne. Indian officials have also requested that Australian authorities forbid the use of Australian territory for anti-Indian actions.

Bagchi further said, "We have been taking up this matter with the Australian authorities. We have requested Australia to ensure the safety and security of members of the Indian community and their properties, and to not allow the use of Australian territory for activities that would be detrimental to the territorial integrity, security and national interest of India."

MEA condemns attack in Canada

Additionally, the Khalistani terrorists' anti-Indian graffiti attack on a Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada, was condemned by the Ministry of External Affairs. Bagchi also mentioned, "You would have seen the comments, I think, by the Canadian Foreign Minister denouncing the vandalism. We reaffirm this position strongly. And we, of course, condemn such acts of vandalisation."
