Rafale: India will buy 26 Rafale M naval jets and 3 Scorpene submarines from the French Republic significantly boosting its maritime capabilities in ther Indian Ocean region. France has emerged a major strategic ally of India in Western world alongside USA and Israel. The navy jets will mostly be stationed in aircraft carriers such as INS Vikrant while the submarines will be a big addition to India's marginal fleet of submarines.

The Purchase Agreement

The deal is likely to be announced during visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to France later this week .

The 90,000 rupees crore deal will include sale of 26 Rafale M aircraft, of which 22 single-seater and four double-seater trainer versions. The deal is likely to get clearance from the defense ministry within this week.

India's fleet of naval aircrafts and submarines is numerically weak and urgent reinforcement is required to meet the changing security dynamics in the Indian Ocean.
