On India's 76th independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts from Red Fort in New Delhi.

He began his address by remembering the freedom struggle and those freedom fighters because of whom India became independent.

Here are the major takewaysfrom his speech at the India completes 75 years of Independence.

  1. PM says India needs to be counted among the developed nations in 25 years.

"Indians should be working towards becoming a developed country and any vestiges of colonialism should be removed. He then added that all Indians must retain their roots while ensuring there;s unity in diversity."

  1. India is an aspirational society: PM Modi

"India is an aspirational society where changes are being powered by a collective spirit. The people of India want positive changes and also want to contribute towards it. Every govt has to address this aspiration society."

  1. PM wants all the PSA oxygen plants, including the hospital beds are made fully functional'

"We have spoken about the up-gradation of health infrastructure. We have to ensure the up-gradation is completed swiftly. We are in a better position with respect to the availability of beds, ventilators, and the PSA oxygen plants. However, we have to ensure that all of these facilities are fully functional. They have to be monitored and responsibility has to be fixed. If there are any gaps, it my request, that it should be verified at the top level. We also have to scale up our infrastructure and manpower in the medical colleges and district hospitals."

  1. Prime Minister focussed on Aatmanirbhar Bharat

"Aatmanirbhar Bharat is not a government agenda and we [citizens] have to take it forward."

  1. India is mother of democracy: PM Modi

"There have been sorrows as well as achievements in these years. We faced natural calamities, wars and other problems. But unity in diversity became our guiding power. India is mother of democracy."
