NATION Farmers Protest: Haryana Shuts Down Internet, Seals Borders Ahead of Delhi Chalo March Sparsh Goel Feb 11, 2024 06:17 GMT Farmers Protest: Amid the farmers' planned 'Delhi Chalo' march on February 13, the Haryana government, led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, stated on Saturday that mobile internet, bulk SMS, and all dongle services would be suspended in numerous districts till then. 'Delhi Chalo' March Organized by 200+ Farmers' Unions A 'Delhi Chalo' march has been called for Tuesday, February 13, by over 200 farmers' unions, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha. The march aims to put pressure on the national government to acquiesce to a number of requests, such as the passing of legislation securing a minimum support price (MSP) for crops. In several districts, including Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Sirsa, the services have been suspended. Haryana Bans Dongle Services During 'Delhi Chalo' Preparations The Haryana government has issued a statement stating that all dongle services on mobile networks—aside from voice calls—will continue to be blocked, including bulk SMS. According to the notification, the order will be in force from 6 a.m. on February 11 to 11:59 p.m. on February 13. Preparations are in full swing to fortify the borders between Punjab and Haryana in the districts of Ambala, Jind, and Fatehabad in advance of the farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' march. Security Reinforcement In anticipation of the farmers' march to Delhi, the Haryana police and the local government in Ambala are barricading the area. Along with the increased security, the Shambhu border in Ambala was also visited by Ambala Superintendent of Police Jashandeep Singh, Inspector General of Police (Ambala Range) Siwas Kaviraj, and Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur of Haryana. Alternate Routes Advised Police have advised travellers from Chandigarh to Delhi to use alternate roads that pass through Panchkula, NH-344 Yamunanagar Indri/Pipli, Karnal, or via Derabassi, Barwala/Ramgarh, Saha, Shahbad, Kurukshetra. 50 companies of central paramilitary soldiers have been sent by the Haryana Police to uphold peace and order throughout the state. The farmers who are protesting have been threatened with harsh consequences if they cause damage to public property and asked not to take part in a scheduled march without permission. It is urged that people visit Punjab only in cases of extreme necessity. Similar security measures are being implemented in the districts of Jind and Fatehabad.
