NATION Farmers Protest: Farmers’ Unions Continue ‘Dilli Chalo’ March as Talks with Centre Remain Inconclusive Neha Kumari Feb 13, 2024 10:40 GMT Farmer Protest: Following the inconclusive second round of talks between farmers’ unions and the Centre on Monday, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify the government's reluctance to engage in discussions with farmers and workers regarding the upcoming Gramin Bharat Bandh scheduled for February 16. Continued Protest Actions:Despite the discussions with Union ministers and officials in Chandigarh not reaching a consensus, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political), along with the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), announced their decision to continue with the ‘Dilli Chalo’ march on Tuesday to press for their demands. Concerns Raised on Gramin Bharat Bandh's Effectiveness:Questions have been raised regarding the effectiveness of the Gramin Bharat Bandh, especially in states like Punjab and Haryana, which were focal points of the farmers' protests two years ago. The SKM, representing more than 500 farmer unions, led the agitation against the now-repealed farm laws. Unrelated ‘Dilli Chalo’ Call Discussed:During an emergency meeting of the nine-member secretariat of SKM, discussions included the unrelated ‘Dilli Chalo’ call by a group of farmers’ unions. The outcome of the meeting and the SKM’s strategy regarding the Gramin Bharat Bandh are yet to be disclosed. The situation remains fluid as farmers persist in their demands for redressal, keeping the spotlight on the ongoing agrarian protests in India. Keep watching our YouTube Channel ‘DNP INDIA’.
