Delhi: New CCTV verifies witness account, car takes U-turn, drags woman| Watch

Delhi: A witness statement that the 20-year-old woman died on Sunday early morning after her scooty was allegedly hit by a car was dragged under the automobile for more than an hour has been validated by new high-quality security camera footage.

The new CCTV film shows a Maruti Baleno automobile doing a U-turn on a road in Kanjhawala, West Delhi, where eyewitness Deepak Dahiya has a confectionery shop.

Mr Dahiya claimed he observed the automobile make a U-turn after colliding with the scooty. The clip, taken at 3.34 a.m., shows the car returning to the location where the body was discovered. The body is readily visible beneath the car.

According to the witness, the automobile driver dragged the girl's body, which became caught in the undercarriage, for 18 to 20 kilometres and travelled that way for nearly an hour and a half.

"It was 3:20 in the morning… I was standing outside the business when I heard a loud boom coming from around 100 metres distant from a vehicle. Initially, I believed it was a tyre rupture. I noticed a body being dragged as soon as the automobile moved. I immediately informed the police," Mr. Dahiya told news agency ANI.

Mr Dahiya claimed the accused drove on the same road repeatedly, making many U-turns.

"I tried to stop them many times, but they did not stop the vehicle. For about one-and-a-half hours, they carried the girl's body for about 20 km," he told.

He was pursuing the automobile on his motorcycle and in contact with the police. According to him, the accused ran when the body fell from the automobile.

"It couldn't be an accident," Mr Dahiya insisted.

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has branded the event "shameful" and said he hopes the perpetrators face the harshest punishment.

"What happened to our sister in Kanjhawala is very shameful. I hope that the culprits will be punished severely," He tweeted in Hindi, accompanied with a newspaper clipping stating that the complaint has been registered under milder parts of the law.

The car was tracked down, and the five occupants were apprehended at their homes.

The arrested accused allege that because the car windows were up and there was loud music inside, they did not notice the body and fled the scene when they realised what had happened.
