Defence Research Body Scientist Arrested For Providing Secret Info To Pakistan

According to sources, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a scientist working for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in this city for giving a Pakistani agent critical information.

An ATS official claimed that the scientist was in contact with a "Pakistan Intelligence Operative" agent via video conversations and WhatsApp.

He continued, "It was a honeytrap situation."

The suspect, who worked in a top defence research centre, was taken into custody on Wednesday.

"The scientist, by misusing his position, despite knowing that the officials secrets in his possession if obtained by the enemy country can pose a threat to the security of the country, provided the details to the enemy country," an ATS release said.

The Kalachowki unit of the ATS in Mumbai has received a complaint for a violation of the relevant Official Secrets Act sections, and further investigation is ongoing, it continued.
