Budget 2023: Slip of tongue? Parliamentarians laugh out loud on Nirmala Sitharaman’s ‘old political vehicles’ comment

A slip of tongue by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting her budget had parliamentarians laughing and they were all in splits. This was a welcome relief for them , who till then were listening to her speech in rapt attention. She used the word ‘political’ instead of pollution, while announcing vehicle replacement policy.
Slip of Tongue has Parliamentarians in splits
Words from the Finance Minister which had caused rip roar in the Parliament,
"Vehicle replacement is an important ongoing policy," and "Replacing the old political... oh, sorry...,"
She smiled and sated, "I know!," correcting herself and again emphasising the word "polluting" in place of "poitical" as she talked about replacing obsolete automobiles as part of an environmental conservation strategy.
She further stated
"Replacing old polluting vehicles is an important part of greening our economy," .
Elaboration of policy announcement after slip of tongue
Further she informed the distinguished Parliamentarians on the policy details and stated that the policy will aid in the phase-out of outdated and unsafe automobiles. This will encourage the use of environmentally friendly, low-emission automobiles, lowering both the cost of oil imports and vehicle pollution.
According to the finance minister, after 20 years for personal vehicles and 15 years for commercial vehicles, automobiles will be put through an automatic fitness test.
Further this poilcy announcement is part of the seven priorities which she had enumerated,
"Inclusive development, reaching the last mile, agriculture and investment, unleashing potential, green growth, youth power, and the financial sector."
