Bengaluru Airport: Woman musician, made to remove shirt during security check, details here

Bengaluru Airport: A female singer claims that while going through security at the Bengaluru airport, she was requested to take off her shirt. She calls the experience "very humiliating" and wonders, "Why would you need a woman to strip?"
The event has been regretted by the airport authorities in Bengaluru, who also stated that the problem has been brought up with the security and operations departments. The Central Industrial Security Force is in charge of handling airport security (CISF).

The singer, whose Twitter account has now been disabled, wrote last evening

"I was asked to remove my shirt at Bengaluru airport during security check. It was really humiliating to stand there at the security checkpoint wearing just a camisole and getting the kind of attention you'd never want as a woman. @BLRAirport Why would you need a woman to strip?"

The official Twitter account at the Bengaluru airport responded by stating that "this should not have happened" and requesting the woman passenger's contact information so they could get in touch with her.

"We deeply regret the hassle caused and this should not have happened. We have highlighted this to our operations team and also escalated it to the security team managed by CISF (Central Industrial Security force) a Government sovereign," in a deleted Twitter response, it stated.

Airport security check issues are not new

Airport security check issues have recently generated a lot of discussion. Airports were crowded with vacationing travellers after travel restrictions were relaxed following the Covid pandemic's two-year duration. Last month, chaotic scenes and lengthy lines could be seen at the airports in Delhi and Bengaluru as travellers lamented long lines at the immigration desks and terrifying experiences during security checks.

The CISF is understaffed, a source from the Bengaluru airport had previously told the sources.  "Bengaluru airport has no control over it. It's the CISF who should manage it well. We have been lending support. The support can be given only to some extent. The CISF is short-staffed, and the immigration is managed by the central authorities," according to the source.

Passengers won't have to take out their laptops, phones, or chargers for luggage screening, according to the aviation security watchdog Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, who is obtaining new scanners. According to the authority, this will enable speedier security inspections and relieve congestion in crowded airports.
