Justice Sanjiv Khanna was sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of India (CJI) on Monday at Rashtrapati Bhawan, with President Droupadi Murmu administering the oath. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and former CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, who retired on November 10.

In his farewell speech, Justice Chandrachud praised Justice Khanna’s "dignity, stability, and deep commitment to justice," expressing confidence in his successor’s future contributions. The Center had confirmed Justice Khanna’s appointment on October 24 after Justice Chandrachud recommended him on October 17.
