Sadhguru Teaching: Who is beyond materiality? Why temples are built

Sadhguru Teaching: According to Sadhguru, the nature of human understanding is such that whatever one is currently engaged in, that is the only truth from one's experience. Right now, most people focus their attention on the five senses, and beyond that nothing seems to be true. The senses can perceive only that which is physical. If you look at physical existence like a garment, then suppose you are living on it. You are walking on this cloth and it is completely physical. But when your eyes look upwards, there is a vast emptiness and in that too, you recognise only the physical things. Your attention goes towards the stars, the sun or the moon - all of these are material. You cannot see that which is not physical and is beyond all this.

Temples are constructed just like shopping malls

Sadhguru says that nowadays, temples are constructed just like shopping malls. When he talks about temples, he is talking about the way ancient temples were built. In ancient times in this country, temples were built only for Lord Shiva and not for any other deities. Temples for other deities were built later as people focused on instant prosperity. People created different types of energies and gods. These temples have been built in the last 1100 or 1200 years, but before that only Lord Shiva's temples used to exist in the country.

Word linga means 'form'

Sadhguru points out that Shiva has no form or shape. No one is aware of his physicality. So that's why the temple of 'that which is not' is built. There are thousands of Shiva temples in the country, most of which have no special form. They simply have a symbolic form which is usually a linga. The word linga means 'form'. Today modern cosmologists have found it in many different ways. It is absolutely true that the center of every galaxy is an ellipse. It always started with an ellipsis or a linga and then became many things. We know from our experience that if we reach a deep state of meditation before reaching the point of complete immersion, the energy takes the shape of an ellipse or a linga.
