A Keto diet or Ketogenic diet is a plan in which the intake of carbohydrates is minimized. Thus, the fat reserves in the body are targeted for energy consumption. There are basically 4 types of keto diet plans – The Standard ketogenic diet (high-fat low carbs), the Cyclical ketogenic diet (5:2 low carb days), the targeted ketogenic diet (carbs around workouts), and high protein ketogenic diet (high in protein). Each plan decides what food you shall consume.  

Benefits of a Ketogenic diet

One of the best benefits of a keto diet is, of course, weight loss. It is an extremely radical way of losing weight quickly. Since it requires more fat consumption, people feel less hungry and eat less as these foods take time to digest. It especially helps bodybuilders and athletes to shed layers of fat in a short period of time. Some studies even show its positive impact on certain neurological disorders; however, more research needs to be done in this area.

Disadvantages of a Ketogenic diet

A keto diet is easy to initiate but very hard to maintain. It requires a tremendous amount of discipline by practitioners. It may impose a lot of eating restrictions that are difficult to follow. It can also cause your body to be calorie deficient and you can even suffer from nutrient deficiency. People suffering from kidney-related issues must not try ketosis as it may have harmful effects on kidneys and patients may require regular dialysis.
