Cataract: Do you need to wear specs after surgery? Health ministry has a surprising answer for you

Cataract: The majority of cataracts occur when the tissue that makes up the eye's lens changes due to ageing or trauma. The lens's proteins and fibres start to degrade, clouding or obscuring vision.

There are many myths surrounding the fact that one needs to wear specs after getting the cataract surgery done. However, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, MP and Union MoS for health ministry has flagged this myth and clarified whether its necessary.

How does cataract disorder happen?

Your risk of cataracts can be increased by some hereditary genetic problems that also result in other health issues. Other eye diseases, previous eye surgery, or medical conditions like diabetes might also lead to cataracts. The long-term use of steroid medicines can also result in cataract development.

Some people either have cataracts from birth or get them as children. These cataracts may be hereditary or linked to an infection or injury within the uterus.

Additionally, certain diseases like myotonic dystrophy, galactosemia, neurofibromatosis type 2 or rubella may be to blame for these cataracts. Although congenital cataracts seldom impair vision, when they do, they are often removed as soon as they are discovered.

The following elements raise your chance of cataracts:

Having diabetics issues
Sun exposure that is too much
Smoking/Obesity
Blood pressure
Prior eye inflammation or damage prior eye surgery
Long-term use of corticosteroid drugs
Exceeding the recommended alcohol limit

Do you need to wear specs after cataract surgery?

People think that after the operation of cataracts they have to wear specs but it is totally a myth.

According to the Health Ministry of India, "मोतियाबिंद के प्रभाव से चश्मे के नंबर में अचानक बदलाव आने लगता है, जिस कारण देखने में परेशानी होती है। ऑपरेशन के बाद मरीज को काफी हद तक पहले जैसा दिखाई देने लगता है। इसलिए समय पर इलाज करवाकर अपनी आँखों को सुरक्षित रखें।"

She stated, There is a significant change in eyesight due to cataract which affects vision. However, after the operation, the patient gets a clear vision. One must get their operation done as soon as possible for better yields.

Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, who is a Member of Parliament and MoS for health and family welfare tweeted about the same and gave information to the public.

How can you prevent cataract?

Here are some of the ways that help prevent cataract:

Regular eye check-up
Quit smoking
Have Healthy diet
Wear sunglasses when you are going outside
Reduce consumption of alcohol
