Understanding the Factors Behind Nirahua's Defeat in Azamgarh Lok Sabha Seat

Despite Sound Policies, Why Did Bhojpuri Star Dinesh Lal Nirahua Lose in Azamgarh?

Everyone was taken aback by the Lok Sabha election results. Trends indicate that the NDA has 293 seats, the INDIA alliance has 232 seats, and there are 18 seats held by other parties. Some prominent seats have already been decided and Azamgarh Lok Sabha Seat is one of these seats.

BJP's Intensive Campaign and Efforts in Azamgarh

Following their overwhelming win in 2019, the BJP has made substantial national progress. Throughout the Azamgarh election campaign, the BJP made a big deal out of these accomplishments. Nirahua and other members of the BJP leadership highlighted all the things the party has accomplished. As a result, Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's rallies during the BJP campaign drew sizable crowds.

BJP's Nirahua Defeated in Azamgarh

This seat has been won by Dharmendra Yadav of the Samajwadi Party (SP). A margin of 161,035 votes gave him the win. With 347,204 votes, Nirahua, also known as Dinesh Lal Yadav of the BJP, finished in second place. With 179,839 votes, Mashood Sabiha Ansari of the BSP came in third. Discussions on the causes for Nirahua's defeat have started. Let;s look at some of the primary causes behind this outcome.

Reasons for Nirahua's Defeat

  1. Stronghold of the Samajwadi Party:Azamgarh, a stronghold for Yadav and Muslim politicians since 1971, has always supported SP candidates. Nirahua was unable to turn the tide against SP in the 2024 elections, despite winning a by-election in 2022.
  2. Shah Alam aka Guddu Jamali Factor: Many people think that Shah Alam, also called Guddu Jamali, is a major factor in the triumph of the SP against Nirahua. Shah Alam's alliance with the SP this time around was a major factor in Nirahua's defeat. Shah Alam is a well-known and politician in the area.
  3. Limited Time to Work: Given that Nirahua was just elected in the 2022 by-election, many believe he had little time to make a difference. He was defeated because he did not have enough time to establish a connection and confidence with the voters.
  4. Caste Dynamics: The caste dynamics in Azamgarh also played a significant role. The seat has historically seen strong support for Yadav candidates, including Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav. Nirahua, being from Bihar, couldn't garner enough support from the Yadav community, which contributed to his defeat.
