The Story of Pavitra Ekadashi

In ancient times, there was a king Mahijit ruler of a city. Being childless, the king was very unhappy. The ministers were unable to see the king's grief and went to the sage Lomash. He asked the sage the reason why the king was childless. So Lomash Rishi said that in his previous life, the king had to starve on ekadashi day. When he approached a lake in search of water, a cow had come there to drink water. The king had driven away the cow and quenched his thirst by drinking water himself. This led to the fast of Ekadashi inadvertently and the king had to remain childless due to the cow being driven away. Explaining the suggestions, the sage said that if you want the king to have a son, then do fasting on shravan shukla ekadashi and donate your fast to the king on the day of Dwadashi. The ministers obeyed the sage Lomash and this gave the king a son. That is why Pavitra Ekadashi is also known as Putrada Ekadashi.
