A three-judge bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian heard the matter. In the petition filed on behalf of Shashi Tharoor, Rajdeep Sardesai, Mrinal Pandey, Zafar Agha, Vinod K Jose, Paresh Nath, Anant Nath and the police case against them were sought to be abolished.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of the petitioners, said, "What have they done to accuse them of treason?"
