Nagaland assembly election: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a poll rally in Chumoukedima district to campaign for the Nagaland assembly election, which will take place on February 27. During his speech, PM Modi criticized the Congress party for remote-controlling Nagaland from Delhi and treating the northeastern states like an ATM. He claimed that there was political instability in Nagaland during the Congress's rule and that the party siphoned off money meant for the state's development.

PM Modi also stated that the BJP's mantra for Nagaland is peace, progress, and prosperity, and this is why people's trust in the party is rising. He added that the NDA is working towards bringing permanent peace in Nagaland so that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 can be lifted from the state. The BJP and the NDPP have formed a pre-poll alliance for the assembly elections, and PM Modi mentioned the work that the ruling party has done in the state, including the construction of a railway project connecting Kohima.

PM Modi lauds BJP's efforts to curb corruption in the Northeast

During the rally, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio felicitated PM Narendra Modi in Dimapur. PM Modi also talked about how the BJP government has put a dent in corruption through the use of technology, which ensures that money sent from Delhi is directly credited to beneficiaries' bank accounts. The BJP-NDPP alliance will contest in all the seats of the 60-member House, with the BJP fielding 20 candidates and the NDPP fielding 40. The Congress has fielded 23 candidates, and other regional political parties such as the NPF and NPP are also in the fray.

Dates for Nagaland assembly elections and result declaration

The BJP has promised to provide free quality education to all girls in the state, while the Congress has guaranteed 33% reservations for women in urban local bodies and Rs 3,000 old-age pension per month in Nagaland. The elections in Nagaland will take place on February 27, and the results will be declared on March 2.
