 MCD Election Results: AAP races ahead with 134 wards, BJP at 104

MCD Election: Results for the MCD elections have started to come in, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ahead of its principal rival, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), according to the most recent results given by the State Election Commission (SEC), by being ahead at 134 wards to 104 for BJP.

AAP surges ahead with 130 wards; BJP at 107

Meanwhile, others are ahead at 3 wards while Congress is ahead at 9 wards

This is the first election after the MCD was reunified earlier this year. MCD polls took place on December 4, and saw a voter turnout of only 50.48% just over 73 lakh people from the total of 1.45 crore eligible voters.

MCD has 250 wards, and a party needs 126 to emerge victorious

The upscale neighborhood of South Delhi reported the lowest voter turnout in these municipal elections, while rural pockets and parts of Northeast Delhi, the scene of riots in 2020, saw the highest polling percentage. There were a total 1,349 candidates in fray.

Bobi Kinnar created history in this MCD election by being the first member of the transgender community to be elected from Sultanpuri-A ward. In Manish Sisodia's district, the AAP has lost three of the four wards.

As the results have started pouring in, the Congress office wears a deserted look. All the trends indicate that Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP is set to end BJP’s 15-year long rule in MCD.

There is a mood of celebration in AAP office.
