POLITICS BJP sweeps Tripura civic polls Jyoti B Nov 29, 2021 03:27 GMT The BJP has swept the civic polls in Tripura -- held amid bitter feud with the Trinamool Congress --- bagging 217 of 222 seats on which elections were held on November 25. The CPM has won three seats, the Trinamool and TIPRA Motha one seat each. In the urban local bodies, polls were conducted for 334 seats, which includes Agartala Municipal Corporation (51 wards), 13 municipal councils, and six Nagar panchayats in Tripura. The election was majorly contested between three parties - the BJP, the TMC and CPI(M). Of the total 334 seats in the state, elections were held in 222 seats across six nagar panchayats, seven municipal councils and the Agartala Municipal Corporation. The total voter turnout recorded was 81.54 per cent. Also Read: Health Ministry revised guidelines for international arrivals The BJP, meanwhile, pitched the result as a vote of confidence in the party, which has been in power in the state since 2018, when it defeat the 25-year Left Front regime.
