Aam Aadmi Party: Rajendra Pal Gautam, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, quit his position in the Delhi government on Sunday following a disagreement over his attendance at a religious conversion program.

Rajendra Pal Gautam said in a tweet: "In addition to being Manyavar Kanshi Ram Saheb's death anniversary, today is Maharishi Valmiki ji's manifestation day. By a strange coincidence, today is also my birthday and I've been set free from many bonds. I shall now firmly and without limitations carry on fighting for rights and against social injustices."

What was the incident about?


Due to his attendance at a religious conversion event where Hindu deities were purportedly disrespected, Rajendra Paul Gautam was under criticism. After a video of the Delhi social welfare minister attending the ceremony on October 5 where hundreds vowed to convert to Buddhism and reject Hindu deities as gods went viral, he found himself at the centre of a controversy on Friday.After the incident, the BJP attacked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and demanded that he fire Rajendra Pal Gautam. Gaurav Bhatia, the national spokesperson for the BJP, claimed that the AAP had offended Hindus' feelings.

He had added that the "comments were made at the request of Kejriwal," adding that "Gautam's words illustrate the hatred the party has for the community."
