CURRENT AFFAIRS Norton Combat trademarked in India, likely to be an entry-level bike and compete with Triumph and Harley Davidson Akshat Kashyap Jul 12, 2023 10:55 GMT Norton Combat: There are no words to adequately express the Royal Enfield mania among Indian youth. Following the popularity of this vehicle, numerous automakers are adamant about producing motorcycles with 250-700 cc engines in India. Despite numerous attempts to unseat Royal Enfield from the top spot by well-known manufacturers like Honda and Classic Legends (the owners of the Jawa and Yezdi brands), none of them have been successful. TVS, on the other hand, entered this market last year when it unveiled the Ronin, but the firm struggled to gain traction because of the allegedly weak design. In order to compete with Royal Enfield, the Norton Combat has now been trademarked in India, according to recent news. Norton Combat trademarked In India, the British motorbike company Norton has registered a trademark for a product with the name "Combat." Given that TVS Motor Company, which owns the venerable brand, is a wholly-owned subsidiary, the likelihood of Norton's introduction in India cannot be completely ruled out. With 153 crore rupees, TVS purchased Norton in April 2020. The V4CR, V4SV, and most recently released Commando 961 are now part of the updated Norton lineup that TVS acquired after purchasing the British company. Expected specifications Although no information has been released regarding the Norton as of yet, it is anticipated that it would be introduced in India in the 400-500cc range with the TVS Norton branding. Significantly, more high-end motorcycles are competing in this sector, including Harley Davidson and Triumph. Norton's presence in this scenario is likely to provide Indian customers with many more options. However, merely filing a trademark application does not ensure a launch.
