IRCTC Refund Rules: IRCTC Ticket Cancellation and Refund Policy: Key Guidelines to Know

IRCTC Refund Rules: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has outlined several important refund policies for passengers looking to cancel their train tickets. Whether you have reserved, RAC, or waitlisted tickets, here’s a breakdown of the key refund rules to help you manage your cancellations smoothly:

Cancellation Charges Based on Ticket Type:

  • Unreserved, RAC, and Waitlisted Tickets: A cancellation fee of Rs 30 applies for unreserved second-class tickets, while Rs 60 is charged for reserved second-class and other classes.
  • Confirmed Reserved Tickets:
  • Cancelled 48 hours before departure: Cancellation charges range from Rs 240 for first AC to Rs 60 for second class.
  • Cancelled between 48 and 12 hours before departure: A 25% cancellation fee applies, with minimum charges based on the class.
  • Cancelled between 12 and 4 hours before departure: A 50% cancellation fee will be deducted, with minimum charges.
  • Partial Confirmation Refunds: Partially confirmed tickets can be refunded up to 30 minutes before the train's departure.
  • Unused RAC/Waitlisted Tickets: These tickets are eligible for refunds up to 30 minutes before departure, with a clerkage fee deducted.

Automatic Refunds for E-Tickets: For passengers with e-tickets, there is no need to file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR). The refund process is automatic.

Refunds for Premium Special Trains: For premium special trains, cancellations are not permitted for confirmed or RAC tickets unless the train itself is cancelled. In such cases, refunds are processed through the Passenger Reservation System (PRS).

Surrendering Tickets for Refund: Passengers who cancel tickets at a station or through IRCTC can collect refunds at the PRS counter. If cancelled via the IRCTC portal or through the helpline number 139, refunds can also be claimed at the nearest reservation counter.

These refund rules are designed to provide passengers with flexibility while ensuring a smooth process for cancellations.
