Apple to produce its own custom display panels, will not depend upon LG and Samsung

By producing its own unique displays for devices as early as 2024, Apple hopes to lessen its reliance on Samsung and LG. According to those with insider information, Apple is considering reducing its reliance on technology partners by starting to change the displays in its most expensive Apple Watches by the end of 2024.

In the long run, Apple's decision to produce the screens in-house will enable it to better customise its products and keep a tighter grip on its supply chain. Samsung, the industry leader and most technologically advanced display producer, has been making its own brand of microLED for TVs.

China’s BOE secures initial orders for upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus & may overtake Samsung

In the interim, China's BOE has obtained the order for the next iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, and by 2024, it may supplant Samsung as Apple's top display supplier.

BOE has outperformed Samsung and won the majority of 2H23 orders for new iPhone 15 and 15 Plus displays. If development and production go according to plan over the next months, BOE will surpass Samsung as the top display supplier for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, with a market share of almost 70% compared to Samsung's 30%.
