Hyundai's Exter equipped with Hy-CNG Duo technology marks the company's first step into twin-cylinder CNG powertrains. Unlike Tata, Hyundai will continue offering its single-cylinder CNG variants alongside the new twin-cylinder versions. The current Hy-CNG Duo technology is available only in the Exter but may soon be included in other models like the Grand i10 NIOS and Aura.

The Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo's pricing starts at Rs 8.5 lakh (Ex-showroom). It is available in three variants: S Hy-CNG Duo, SX Hy-CNG Duo (Rs 9.23 lakh), and SX Knight Hy-CNG Duo (Rs 9.38 lakh). On the other hand, the Tata Punch iCNG starts at Rs 7.23 lakh (Ex-showroom).

Engine and Performance

The Exter Hy-CNG Duo features a 1.2L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that runs on both petrol and CNG, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Hyundai claims a fuel efficiency of up to 27.1 kmpl, with the twin cylinders capable of holding up to 60 liters of water equivalent.

Comparatively, the Tata Punch iCNG has a slightly larger 1.2L 3-cylinder engine. While it delivers a bit more power (72 bhp) and torque (103 Nm) than the Exter, it has a marginally lower fuel efficiency at 26.99 kmpl.

Safety Features

One of the standout differences is in the safety features. The Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo comes equipped with six airbags across its variants, offering enhanced safety for all passengers. In contrast, the Tata Punch iCNG offers two airbags as standard.
